  • Trip Grade:

Moderate - Suitable for travelers with an average level of fitness and mobility. However, some walking and hiking is required.

  • Trip Tips:

Explore the countryside of Siem Reap on your own quad bike, by far the best way to see the real village life. We will end the day watching the stunning sunset over the paddy fields where cattle and oxen graze lazily.

  • Best Travel Time:

There are two seasons in Cambodia, wet and dry. From early May to the end of October is the rainy season. It often rains heavily but for short periods of time, mostly later in the day or during the night, after which the sun returns. The rain cools the air and freshens up the lush green of the rice plantations. It is cooler in the dry season, which runs from early November to early February, when it starts heating up again, building to the hottest month of April. So the best time for rain lovers is between May and October and from November to early March for those who like it dry and cool.

Day 1: Saigon - My Tho - Cai Be - Can Tho
It all starts with a pick up at Tan Son Nhat airport and transfer (approx 2 hrs) to My Tho, in order to avoid the teeming traffic of Ho Chi Minh City. My Tho is the gateway to the Mekong Delta and a wonderful place to start our ride. In My Tho, we unload our bikes and start to pedal on the beautifully quiet country lanes along the Tien River to Cai Be. Along the way, we pass through the heart of rural Mekong along narrow lanes, passing banana plantations, sugar cane fields and the lush rural landscape of the Delta. After Cai Be, we cross on the Dinh Khao ferry to Cho Lach. After the ferry, we have the option of cycling for a couple of kilometres and then shuttle the rest way to Can Tho. Overnight in Can Tho.

Cycled distance: Approx 50km
Difficulty: Easy/Moderate
Meals: Lunch & dinner
Accommodation: Hotel in Cab Tho.

Day 2: Can Tho - Chau Doc
After an early morning rise we take a short walk to Ninh Kieu pier and board our private motorized sampan for a leisurely morning cruise to explore the hustle and bustle of the Cai Rang floating market. During the early morning market hours, larger sized boats set anchor and create lanes that smaller boats weave in and out of. The waterway transforms into a maze made up of hundreds of boats packed with mangos, bananas, papayas, pineapples, and even smuggled goods like cigarettes from Cambodia. Sellers do not have to worry about their goods going unnoticed amongst all the traffic as their products can easily be spotted from a distance hanging from long bamboo poles high above the commotion below! After our morning cruise we return to the hotel for breakfast before driving out of town to catch the Can Tho Ferry. Depending on the traffic today, the ferry could take approximately 30 minutes to cross the river, and then from the pier we transfer by bus for 2 kms before starting our cycling day. As we gear up and head off, we turn left onto a quieter road where we can enjoy biking along the exotic Hau River. This journey features classic rural Vietnamese scenery including vast stretches of rice paddies and picturesque lotus ponds begging to be photographed. After 45 km of riding we stop in Lai Vung to enjoy a tasty lunch in a simple local restaurant. After our lunch stop, we saddle up again to pedal through the countryside until we reach Cho Moi town where we can stop for a well deserved rest break. We then continue cycling along the Tien River absorbing more traditional scenic views of the magical Mekong Delta countryside. As we approach the small town of Phu Tan we pick up the local ferry and cross the river before loading our bikes on to the support van for a 40 km transfer to Chau Doc via Phu My. Dinner and overnight in Chau Doc.

Cycled distance: Approx 70km
Difficulty: Easy/Moderate

Day 3: Chau Doc - Ha Tien
After breakfast, we enjoy a full day on our bikes. The ride today is mixture of on-road and off-road. We first cycle to Sam Mountain, where we see dozens of pagodas and temples such as Tay An Pagoda andThoai Ngoc Hau temple. We visit Lady Chua Xu, which was founded in the 1820s and stands facing Sam Mountain. From the top of Sam Mountain we can catch the panoramic view over Cambodian border, riding downhill before we hit the flat terrain and keep riding to Ha Tien. Along the way, we can take in the beautiful evergreen countryside dotted with local homes and lovely orchards. We will break our journey at Ba Chuc Temple, once considered the Vietnamese killing fields. It was here that Pol Pot’s regime massacred over 3,000 Vietnamese in 1978. We stop to visit the local museum here and then continue riding to Ha Tien, which is a beautiful beach and market town situated virtually on the Vietnam Cambodian coastal border and offers a diverse spread of Vietnamese life. There is a high percentage of Khmer people living here reflecting the historical significance of the area, having changed hands between Cambodia and Vietnam in the 1970’s. Today it is a bustling and interesting smugglers town between the former enemies. It has fantastic beaches and a superb coastline. Overnight Saigon Ha Tien hotel.
