We visit an amazing place with distinctive culture and a unique lifestyle. Namhtumkoo – A large Lisu village situated 20 km west of Putao on the crossroads to the lofty, 11530 feet-high Mt. Lancrumadin, one of the most prominent mountains in the area. This is a perfect overnight trek from Putao. We trek through the jungle trails in dense forest filled with bamboo and vines and across farmlands with a spectacular view of the Putao plain with its snake-like Mula creek down below.

 

Brief Itinerary

 

Day 1:             Arrival Putao – walking Tour.

Day 2:             Putao – Namhtumkoo (trek).

Day 3:             Namhtumkoo - Htawphulaw – Lancrumadin (trek).

Day 4:             Lancrumadin – Namhtumkoo (trek).

Day 5:             Namhtumkoo – Mulashidi (trek) – Machanbaw (jeep) - Putao.

Day 6:             Departure.

Day 1: Arrival at Putao
Upon arrival to Putao airport you will be welcomed by your local guide and transferred to your lodge in Putao. Putao lies in a flat valley and acts as a gateway for trekkers and explorers venturing to the region’s deep forests, wildlife sanctuaries and snow-capped mountains. After checking in and having a light lunch you take a stroll around Putao town and surroundings.

Day 2: Putao - Namhtumkoo (trek)
You take an early morning walk to Putao market (approx. 10 minutes), often busy with many local ethnic tribes. You return to the hotel for breakfast and head off towards Namhtumkoo, a Lisu village, situated west of Putao on the crossroads to Mt. Lancrumadin (20 km, approx. 5 hours). You walk through cultivated fields, passing some small villages and farmlands. After about one hour walking on the flat land you are in a wilderness of lush tropical evergreen forests. About 3 hours trekking through this uphill terrain and you will reach approx. 2250 ft. / 680 meters, on the shoulder of Namhtun mountain range where the path starts to descend. Far to the west you will see the lofty 11,530 ft. / 3,495 meters high Lancrumadin Mountain towards the Indian border. You stop for lunch and continue trekking for another hour through the farmland to a village. You check in at a designated home and then continue towards Namhtun creek, usually busy during the late afternoon with locals on their way back home from the fields. Dinner and overnight at Namhtun guesthouse.

Day 3: Namhtumkoo – Htawphulaw – Namsaing (Trek)
After breakfast trekking west to Htawphulaw (22 km / approx. 7 hours) passing through cultivated land, grassland and later trough a tropical forest into a small creek which leads to the base of a small mountain about 1000 metres high blanketed in thick forest. After the descent you arrive at Htawphulaw village, home of the Rawan and Lisu tribes. After a lunch break you continue trekking towards the west to Namsaing, which is famous for its hot and spicy chili pepper production. At first you will cross cultivated land and then the route leads in to a small creek which you follow downstream along the high reef, passed a small waterfall; finally, after crossing a 800 meter high mountain you get to Mula creek which you cross by a rattan suspension bridge to get in to your final destination, Namsaing village.

Day 4: Namsaing – Htawphulaw – Namhtumkoo
You have breakfast and then return back to Namhtumkoo via same route. Dinner and overnight stay at Namhtun guesthouse.

Day 5: Namhtumkoo – Mulashidi – Putao (Trek/Jeep)
After breakfast and you visit the village for a little social and cultural inter-action. After saying farewell to the locals you walk about 45 minutes through the fields along Namhtun creek crossing the creek a couple of times. Once you get into the wildness the terrain immediately starts to ascend and leads up to 2295 ft. / 700 meters. After about 2 hours through quite strenuous jungle trail in dense forest filled with bamboo grove the trek gradually descends through farmland from where you enjoy a spectacular view of the Putao plain, looking down at the snake-like Mula creek. After a stop for lunch you have a couple of hours easy trek to Mulashidi village. Here you will enjoy beautiful surroundings with snowcapped mountains in the distance. You get on your jeep for a further trip to Machanbaw, a small administrative town, beautifully set up in the old colonial style. On arrival at Naungkhine village, you walk over a small suspension bridge spanning the Malikha River to Machanbaw. You take a look around the town, which includes a small market and take a walk up to the so-called stone dragon park. It should take about 20 minutes to view the snake-like rock formation. Walk back to the riverfront, cross the suspension bridge to the other side and drive back to Putao.

Day 6: Departure
On this, the last day you have breakfast and a possibility for some last minute shopping at Putao market as well as a further visit in and around Putao with suggestions by your guide. Lunch and afternoon transfer to airport for your onward departure flight.
