Experience many of the famous destinations of Myanmar on this independent, 10-day journey. All accommodation, flights and transportation as noted in the itinerary are included. This tour is suitable for those who prefer more freedom to choose in Myanmar what they want to do and avoid wasting time trying to make time consuming travel arrangements independently while in the country. We also recommend at least 1 day with a tour guide in each destination to get the real local feel and insight.

Day 1: Arrival Yangon (self-guided)                                                        [-/-/-]

 

On arrival at Yangon airport, you will be welcomed by your driver and transferred to your hotel for check in. After freshening up you set off on your private Yangon exploration. We recommend you visit the Swedagon Pagoda at sunset.  Our car and driver will be at your disposal.

Day 2: Yangon – Bagan (self-guided)                                                       [B/-/-]

 

After breakfast at the hotel you can explore the sights of Yangon. Our car and driver will be at your disposal until your transfer to Yangon airport for a 1-hour (if direct), afternoon flight to Nyaung U and Bagan. On arrival at Bagan airport you will be transferred to your hotel.

NB: Travelers need to pay 15 USD Bagan archeological zone fee at the airport on arrival.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Day 3: Bagan Temples (self-guided)                                                       [B/-/-]

 

After breakfast at the hotel, you begin your private exploration of the Ancient Kingdoms of Bagan. Our car and driver will be at your disposal. Driving within Old and New Bagan and Nyaung Oo areas are included during the day.

Day 4: Bagan (self-guided)                                                                        [B/-/-]

 

After breakfast at your hotel the rest of the day is free to explore Bagan. We recommend renting bicycle(s) and riding along the small lanes to the more remote temple sites where you will discover the real countryside life and soul of Bagan.

Optional Tour: Hot Air Balloon Flight over Bagan

 

Imagine floating over thousand-year-old pagodas and the mighty Ayeyarwaddy River, as the sun sinks slowly behind distant mountains. The magic of Bagan has inspired visitors to Myanmar for centuries. One of the most remarkable sights in Asia, ancient temples dot the landscape as far as the eye can see. Now, Balloons over Bagan affords visitors a unique opportunity to see this ancient kingdom, as it never has been seen before. The sunrise and sunset champagne flights take off daily from October through to the end of March.

 

 

Day 5: Mandalay – City Impressions (self-guided)                               [B/-/-]

 

After breakfast at the hotel you transfer to Bagan airport for a short 30-minute flight to Mandalay. Upon arrival to Mandalay you will be met by our driver and transferred about 40km/1hr to Mandalay city. The rest of the day is free for your own exploration or just to relax. Our car and driver will be at your disposal to use within the city area.

Day 6: Sagaing – Amarapura – Ubein Bridge (self-guided)                 [B/-/-]

 

After breakfast at the hotel, our driver will take you across the Irrawaddy River to Sagaing known for its many monasteries and convents. From Sagaing you can continue to Amarapura site of one of the old Burmese kingdoms and Ubein Bridge, the world’s longest teak wood bridge built of old palace teak logs.

Day 7: Inle Lake – Floating Islands (self-guided)                                 [B/-/-]

 

After breakfast at the hotel you transfer to Mandalay airport to catch a short 1-hour flight to Heho, a quiet transit town with one of the few airport links to the beautiful hills of Shan State. You can visit the bustling main Heho market, the meeting point for different ethnic minority groups from the surrounding areas to trade handmade goods and locally grown produce (on market days only). En route to Inle Lake, we stop at a local family workshop to learn how Shan umbrellas and paper are made by traditional methods using the fibres of the mulberry tree. Next, we take a 1-hour drive to Inle Lake that descends through the valley with views of the Shan mountains and rice paddy fields. After check in at your hotel in Nyaung Shwe, the main village of the Lake District, the rest of the day is free for own activities.

Day 8: Inle Lake (self guided)                                                       [B/-/-]

 

After breakfast at the hotel the rest of the day is free for own explorations. You can hire bicycle(s), visit a vineyard or take a boat journey to explore the lake and find the floating gardens, weaving villages and Burmese cats, all of which are some of the attractions of the lake.

Inle Lake markets

 

The colorful and bustling morning market is one of the highlights of Inle Lake. Local ethnic minority groups come from near and far to trade their goods, and this presents an opportunity to observe people in traditional costumes in an authentic market atmosphere. The market rotates five days a week, each day making its base in a different village (though closed on national holidays). Market visits can be included in any tour program if the market location falls within the proximity of your travel itinerary.

 

 

Day 9: Inle Lake – Yangon (self-guided)                                                 [B/-/-]

 

After breakfast you transfer (1 hour) to Heho airport for a short flight to Yangon. On arrival at Yangon you transfer to your hotel for check in, after which the rest of the day is free for relaxing or for your own Yangon exploration.

Day 10: Depart Yangon                                                                               [B/-/-]

 

After breakfast at the hotel you have free time until your transfer to Yangon airport for your departure flight.

•          2 bottles of water & 2 refreshing towels per passenger per day

•          All entrance and permit fees to the sites mentioned in the itinerary

•          Early check in, late check out. Normal check out time from hotels in Myanmar is 11 AM or 12 noon           

•          Expenses of personal nature

•          Drinks during meals, hotel extras and personal spending

•          Camera & video fees. Some of the sites visited may ask small fees for photographing and video recording.

We are aware that a good tour must have good hotels. In Indochina particularly, hotel price makes up most of the cost of your holiday in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. All of our prices are calculated on a twin-shared basis. As a guide, Travel Loops defines hotel grades as follows:
