During this short 4-day visit to the beautiful Luang Prabang, you will visit the stunning Wat Xienthong Wat Visoun and Mount Phousi. A trip to the large night market after sunset is another highlight. The Pak Ou caves and the Kuangsi waterfalls are just 2 more of the highlights of Luang Prabang.
Brief Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival Luang Prabang – Wat Xienthong. Day 2: Pak Ou caves and villages. Day 3: Kuangsi waterfalls. Day 4: Alms-giving ceremony and former Royal Palace.
Day 1 Arrival – Luang Prabang – half-day tour [-/L/-]
We will transfer you to your chosen hotel in time for a leisurely lunch followed by a visit to Wat Xienthong, the most famous and beautiful temple in the old town dating back to the 16th century. After visiting Wat Visoun, the Melon Stupa and Wat Aham we then climb the 328 steps up to Mount Phousi for the sunset. On the way back we visit the lively and colourful night market.
Day 2 Luang Prabang – Pak Ou Caves [B/L/-]
After breakfast we embark for a slow boat trip to the Pak Ou caves, some 32km up-river, stopping along the way to visit a whisky village and discover the process villagers use to make Lau Lao (a very potent rice whisky); we then continue to the caves where a thousand Buddha figures are kept. After the visit, we will take a break for lunch at a typical local restaurant then head back downstream to Luang Prabang. Next we take a short 12 km trip by private car to Ban Xangkhong, an ethnic weaving and Mulberry papermaking village, and then it’s back to your hotel
Day 3 Luang Prabang – Kuangsi Water Falls [B/L/-]
After breakfast we start the day by driving through the Lao countryside by minivan to the Kuangsi waterfall located some 29 km away. On the way we make a stop at the Minority Hmong village and for pictures of the beautiful lush scenery along the way. On arrival at the falls we take a cooling swim in the fall’s turquoise waters and enjoy a picnic lunch. We head back mid-afternoon to Luang Prabang.
Day 4 Luang Prabang - Departure [B/-/-]
Today we have a very early start at 5:45 AM and go by car to Ban Vat Sean to watch the long line of monks collecting alms ceremony and then it’s back to the hotel for breakfast prior to check out from the hotel. The morning continues with a visit to the former Royal Palace before your transfer to Luang Prabang airport for your departure flight.
