This short but fascinating tour of the area around Luang Prabang will give you an insight into the history and culture of Laos. Starting from Thailand, we head by boat down the mighty Mekong, stopping for a look at Pakbeng, then on to the very picturesque town and ancient capital of Luang Prabang. The highlights are the spectacular Kuangsi Waterfalls and the Pak Ou caves. Incorporating a city tour of the most impressive temples, this is a fantastic short trip in Laos.
Brief Itinerary
Day 1: Chieng Khong - Hoesay - Pakbeng Day 2: Pakbeng – Pak Ou Caves - Luang Prabang Day 3: Luang Prabang - Kuangsi Waterfalls Day 4: Luang Prabang Tour – Departure
Day 1: Chieng Khong - Hoesay - Pakbeng
On your arrival at the Chiangkong - Houisay Immigration Check-Point, we go through the formalities and then take a private, slow boat trip heading south on the Mekong River to Pakbeng stopping for lunch en route.
Overnight in Pakbeng in riverside accommodation. Meals: Lunch
Day 2: Pakbeng – Luang Prabang
After breakfast, we continue by boat to Luang Prabang stopping on the way to visit several hill tribe villages, and then it’s onwards to the famous Pak Ou caves also known as Tham Ting. After lunch we visit a rice wine distillation village at Ban Sanghai and arrive at sunset in Luang Prabang.

Day 3: Luang Prabang - Kuangsi Waterfalls
Today is a full-day excursion to visit the picturesque Kuangsi waterfalls where we have a picnic lunch on site. Swimming is recommended in the clear natural pools. Late afternoon, we return to Luang Prabang to visit Ban Phanom weaving village and Ban Sang Kong, a papermaking village using a process from mulberry trees.
Overnight in Luang Prabang. Meals: Breakfast and picnic lunch.
Day 4: Luang Prabang Tour – Departure We have a full-day city tour of this ancient capital of the Lao Kingdom, beautifully situated on the Mekong surrounded by hills. We visit Wat Visoun, Wat May, Wat Xienthong, Wat Praphuthabat, and the National Museum known as former Royal Palace and finally watch the sun set over the Mekong River with a panoramic view of Luang Prabang City from Phousi Mountain.
